Faces of Kingsmen: Cici’s Journey from Residential to Travel Retail Design

by | 28 March 2025

How has your experience at Kingsmen evolved since you first joined?

After specialising in residential projects for years, joining Kingsmen five years ago marked the start of my journey into commercial and retail design. It was a significant transition, given the different processes and requirements.

Initially, I assisted my team with various drawings, gaining extensive experience and valuable industry insights. This allowed me to work with renowned global clients in the travel retail sector while learning to uphold Kingsmen’s standard of quality. Although adapting took time, my manager’s guidance made a tremendous difference.

Today, I have the privilege of leading a team and managing our travel retail design projects. However, looking at my colleagues who have been with the company for 15 to 20 years, I know there is still much more to learn. Our market is constantly evolving, and I’m excited about the new challenges and opportunities ahead.

What keeps you motivated to come to work every day?

It’s incredibly fulfilling to see our efforts take shape from drawings to beautiful, real-life stores. That sense of accomplishment keeps me motivated in our fast-paced environment.

I also enjoy the collaborative aspect of my role, working hand-in-hand with clients to deliver satisfactory solutions. Occasionally, we also collaborate with Kingsmen’s regional teams, which adds even more depth to our work.

I believe self-care is essential for staying refreshed and energised. Practising yoga and meditation regularly helps me recharge both mentally and physically, especially after long hours at my desk.

What advice would you give to a designer just starting in your field?

While transitioning between design fields can be challenging, your past design experience will undoubtedly help you adapt more quickly. My advice is to maintain a positive attitude, stay determined, and be open to learning, even when progress feels slow.

Most importantly, don’t hesitate to try new things! The design world is evolving, and embracing change will help you thrive.
